（２）神社をたずね、神事を学ぶ/橿原神宮
橿原神宮
今から約２６００年前、初代天皇とされる神武天皇が即位したとされる場所に、明治時代に建てられたのが、橿原神宮です。大和三山（※）のひとつ「畝傍山（うねびやま）」の麓にあり、周りは深い緑の森に囲まれています。境内には巨大な池「深田池」が広がり、参道や拝殿などの建物からは厳かな雰囲気が感じられます。
（※＝古代の人が神として大切にした、橿原市にある３つの山。ほかに「耳成山」「香久山」がある）
KASHIHARA JINGU
In Meiji period, KASHIHARA JINGU was built in the place where Emperor Jinmu, the legendary first emperor of Japan, ascended the throne about 2600 years ago. The shrine is located at the base of “Mount Unebiyama”, one of *Yamato Sanzan, and surrounded by deep green forest. In the shrine, there is a big pond “Fukada pond” and you may feel solemn of the pathway to the shrine and buildings like Haiden (building for pray).
*Three mountains in Kashihara, considered sacred since ancient times, are called Yamato Sanzan. Other two mountains are “Mount Miminashi” and “Mount Kaguyama”.
主人公 K1「ここが神社っていうところか。」
K2「うわぁ、大きい。なんだろう、これ。」
K3「広くてきれいなところだなぁ。」
K4「水がある。ここで何をするのかな？」
神職 K5「旅行の方ですか？」
主人公 K6「そうなんです。すみません、これは何をするところですか？」
神織 K7「はい、ここは手水舎と言って
お清めをするところになります。」
K8「 このようなやり方でお清めをするんですよ。」
K9「 まず、ひしゃくで水をすくいます。」
K10「そして、左手を洗います。」
K11「次に、右手を洗います。」
K12「次に、左の手のひらで水を受けて、口をすすぎます。」
K13「そしてもう一度、左手を洗います。」
K14「そして最後に、ひしゃくを立てて、持ち手を洗います。」
K15「そして、元のようにきれいに戻してください。」
主人公 K16「やってみます！」
K17「まず、左手を洗って。」
K18「右手洗って。」
K19「左手で水を受けて口すすいで。」
K20「また左手洗って。」
K21「持ち手を洗う。」
K22「こんな感じでいいのかな。」
神織 K23「よかったら、このまま( 中も) ご案内しますよ。」
主人公 K24「ありがとうございます。」
神織 K25「はい、ではどうぞ。こちらの方へ、お進みください。」
主人公 K26「 ここでおじぎするのが決まりなんだ。」
K27「中も広いなぁ。」
神織 K28「こちらでお参りをします。」
K29「 お参りの作法を説明します。
まずはじめに、お賽銭を入れます。」
K30「そして次に、二回頭を下げます。
次に、二回手を叩きます。」
K31「 最後にもう一度、頭を下げます。
これがお参りのやり方です。」
主人公 K32「そういえば、さっき大きい絵がありましたが
あれはなんですか？」
神織 K33「はい、外にありますのは外拝殿( この建物) の
大絵馬と言いまして、幅は5.４メートル、
高さは４.５メートルになります。」
K34「 それでは、実際 ( みなさま) にお受けいただきます。
絵馬のある場所まで、ご案内いたします。
どうぞこちらまでお進みください。」
主人公 K35「こんにちは。」
巫女 K36「こんにちは。」
K37「 こちらがですね、絵馬でございます。」
K38「 お願い事とお名前をお書きいただいて、
( 絵馬かけ所に) お掛けいただいております。」
K39「ご旅行の方ですか？」
主人公 K40「はい、そうです。」
巫女 K41「ではですね、こちらが旅の安全を願いまして
リュックサックの形( のお守り) になっております。」
K42「 もちろんですね、日常でも使っていただいても結構です。」
神織 K43「またお参り下さい。」
主人公 K44「とても勉強になりました！」
K45「日本の文化も体験できてよかったなぁ。」
K46「少し散歩して帰ろ！」
K1 This must be a shrine.
K2 Wow, it's huge. What is it?
K3 It's so spacious and clean.
K4 Water? Should I do something here?
K5 Are you on holiday?
K6 Yes. Could you tell me what to do here?
K7 Sure. This is a Temizuya,
for purifying yourself before entering the shrine.

K8 I’ll show you how to purify yourself.
K9 First, scoop some water with the ladle.
K10 Next, wash your left hand,
K11 then your right.
K12 Then pour some water into your left hand and rise your mouth.
K13 Wash your left hand again afterwards.
K14 Lastly, hold the ladle up like this to wash the handle.
K15 Please put it neatly back where it came from.
K16 I’ll give it a go!

It’s 5.4 meters wide and 4.5 meters tall.
